Dave Martin, founder and
coach at Felixstowe Judo Club, continues his dual-career in the
sport in November after being selected to take charge of contests
between Europe’s finest emerging players.
Martin, an accomplished
referee, takes charge at the under 23 European Championships next
month before jetting off to Korea in December to officiate at
the prestigious World Cup which will feature some of the world’s
elite senior players.
The Suffolk judo stalwart
holds a Continental A Licence which sees him called upon to referee
at the sport’s biggest events including the 2010 European Championships
which took place in April.
While pursuing a first-class
refereeing career Martin runs his own club in addition to being
an Enjoy Judo coach for the British Judo Association. The role
sees him deliver the Olympic sport to schools in the community
including Deben High School and Causton Junior School.
Martin said: “I am looking
forward to refereeing at both these events which will be of the
highest level and these are events I need to perform well at to
maintain my classification.
“This will be the second
time that I have refereed in Korea, in 2006 I refereed at the
World University Judo Championships.”
Felixstowe Judo Club is
based at Garrison Lane, Felixstowe, Suffolk, IP11 7RF. The club
