Kettering Premier Judo Club to host summer camps

Kettering Premier Judo Club are looking to the future as they bid to attract and nurture young talent when they host both a beginners and development camp in July.

The sessions, which will take place at the club’s base of the William Knibb Centre, are aimed at tapping into the region’s network of sporting talent and further developing the well versed skills of current members.

Northamptonshire’s decorated club, who won Kettering Borough Council’s Development Club of the Year in 2008, will host a beginner’s camp on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 July at 10:00 – 15:00. The camp is open to children aged 7-13 years and no experience is necessary.

Kettering Premier Judo Club’s five-hour summer holiday sessions will be taken by 5th Dan Steve Cross, a respected coach who currently delivers the sport to school children within the British Judo Association’s Enjoy Judo programme.

Newcomers will be provided with a judo suit and will engage in activities which will be aimed at developing a basic skill set to safely practice and enjoy the sport. Information will also be available on how they can continue to practice the Olympic sport in Kettering.

Young Leaders from local secondary schools will also assist the coaches and a qualified first aider will also be in attendance at all times.

The Development camp will take place on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 July at 10:00 – 15:00 and will be open to all East Midlands players holding a 4th Mon (yellow belt) grade or higher.

Steve Cross will be joined by noted 6th Dan Steve Gawthorpe as they preside over the town’s next generation of sports players.

Participants of both camps will be required to bring a packed lunch and entry fee is £5 for the first child and £2.50 for subsequent siblings.

 .

The camps and the club’s training takes place at tThe William Knibb Centre Gymnasium, Alfred Street, Kettering NN16 8AE
