Chelmsford’s Kamiko Judo
Club took part in a prestigious international training camo in
Sicily alongside budding judo players from France, Spain, Poland
and hosts Italy.
The highly-active club
started their trip by visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa before
flying on to Palermo.
Kamiko’s player-coach George
Martin, 18, himself a British international, took a local club
session on Friday which featured players from across Europe as
a warm-up for Saturday’s event.
The two-day show, an annual
memorial event for two local police officers, featured a best
of five series with three boys and two girls. Despite winning
four fights in total Kamiko’s team failed to advance to Sunday’s
finals.
George Martin said: “The
tournament was won by a very strong squad form Poland. The competition
itself boasted numerous national cadet and junior champions from
all countries and also had an array of European cadet and junior
medallists.
“We returned home Tuesday morning
having gained some priceless experiences and team event practice.”

Martin, who started judo
at the club’s opening night 10 years ago, coaches alongside the
club’s Head Coach Ricardo Hutchins and his wife Debbie who together
run the Essex outfit.
“I started judo when I
was 8 and as a club coach I strive to share with the players what
I’ve learned from being part of the British team.”
