Gold joy for Clacton Judo Club

Essex’s Clacton Judo Club received the coveted Gold Clubmark award at the GB World Cup in Birmingham on Saturday 2 October.

The thriving club have embraced the clubmark scheme which was created by Sport England in 2002 in partnership with National Governing Bodies.

Clubs work through the scheme from bronze award up to gold after demonstrating that they are committed to providing a safe, effective and friendly environment for players.

The gold award requires an excellent delivery of the sport in addition developing a volunteer section and qualifying young officials.

Clacton has established numerous School 2 Dojo links, the British Judo Association’s programme which provides a club outlet for those who practice the Olympic sport in school.

The club, which has worked with their local School Sports Partnership, boasts 12 coaches, 37 players who are under 16 and 20 adult members.

“It will take a lot of effort to keep at the top but that’s something we’re prepared for,” a club statement read.

“It’s great to be the first non-commercial club to achieve this. The whole club is very pleased to have the Gold award, it’s taken a lot to collate and note all the elements we already doing, we’re all looking forward to reaping the benefits of this now and the challenge of keeping the award for the future.”
