Ghosia Judo Club, the mosque-based
club launched by Bolton Wanderers Football Club last year, is
set to return after the venue was refurbished to contain a permanent
dojo.
The club, which on average
attracts 50 participants a session aged between 5 and 15, formed
as part of Bolton’s Premier League 4 Sport initiative which sees
the Trotters also offer the fellow Olympic disciplines of hockey,
table tennis and badminton through satellite clubs.
Bolton Wanderers’ Premier
League 4 Sport Coordinator, Nicol Meredith, is delighted that
the club is resuming and believes it will continue to be a big
hit in the community.
"We’re thrilled that
Ghosia Judo Club is back up and running and we’re keen to attract
new members,” said Nicol.
“The judo club’s success
really underlines how Bolton Wanderers Football Club supports
the great work being done by Bolton Wanderers Community Trust
(BWCT), the British Judo Association and support staff in raising
sports participation in the area. “

British Judo Technical
Officer Kerry Finney said: “The young players we’ve had at the
club have been fantastic, they’re keen to learn and have really
enjoyed the fun elements to the Olympic sport of judo.
"I think the club’s
success bodes very well for the future of the sport in the area
and hopefully we can see a generation of judo players from Bolton
progress into the competition arena.
"Many of the young
players will have their first competitive experience at the North
West Red Belt Rumble on Saturday 11 February with the added incentive
of free tickets to the Premier League clash between Bolton and
Wigan.”
Ghosia Judo Club is based
at Ghosia Community Centre, St Paul’s Mill, Barbara Street, Bolton,
BL3 6UQ. Training takes place on a Tuesday from 19:15 – 20:30.
