German judo star takes North Shields masterclass

Former Olympic bronze medallist Annett Boehm took a masterclass session at Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields on Monday 12 July.

The 29-year-old, who retired last year, was supported by Sandra Klinger, the British Judo Association’s South West Technical Officer and former German National Coach.

Boehm is best known for capturing a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics, a year after sending shockwaves through the sport by taking the same medal at her first World Championships. The standout German lost a bronze medal match at the 2008 Olympics to young American sensation Ronda Rousey.

The session was organised by the British Judo Association’s North East Technical Officer Chloe Cowen.

“The evening saw judoka of all ages experience Annett’s favourite techniques that have brought her success throughout her judo career,” said the 5th Dan.

“Annett showed and helped everyone understand her systematic approach to high performance judo and how this can be adapted through to everyone’s personal technique.”
