Mid Cornwall Judo Kwai
has been awarded a £750 grant from the Co-op Community Trust to
take the Olympic sport out to rural areas.
The Newquay outfit will
hold taster sessions at village halls and participants will be
offered free judo suits as well as half price licenses.
Head coach Jason Beer said:
“We have received a significant grant and are committed to taking
the sport out to rural areas and show all sectors of the community
the benefits and challenges that come with practicing the Olympic
sport of judo.”
“We have a very good start-up
package available including a free judo suit to ensure newcomers
are fully equipped to tackle judo and launch themselves into the
grading system which sets criteria for judoka to meet as they
work their way up the colours towards the black belt.”
The club will also stage
a free month of training for any newcomers who are aged 16 or
above. The sessions will take place on a Friday at the club’s
base of the Scout Hut on Godolphin Way, Newquay.
“The club will welcome
all new players who wish to drop in and have a go for free, as
this is a great way to stay active no matter what excuses you
give yourself you have nothing to lose, said Beer.
“If any local community
officers would like to contact the club to take up the offer of
the club visiting their village then please contact me.”
