Silver lining for Mid Cornwall Judokwai

Mid Cornwall Judokwai youngster Chris Edwards caught the eye as he claimed a richly-deserved silver medal at the Heart of England Championships on Sunday at Walsall University.

Edwards, 12, holds a 13 Mon grade, took the runner-up spot in the -50kg category.

Mid Cornwall Judokwai Head Coach Jason Beer said: “I’m delighted for Chris, he really worked hard to achieve silver and he can be proud of the way he competed.

“He’s got a lot of potential, exposing him to this level of competition was tremendous for his development and the silver medal will give him a lot of confidence.”

Chris has now turned his attentions to the British Championships, one of the highlight of the domestic calendar for juniors, which takes place in Sheffield in October.

The high-flying club will also be developing a new class at Falmouth University as the Olympic sport continues to be embraced by British Universities and Colleges at a record rate.

In addition to their extensive schedule, the in demand Mid Cornwall Judokwai will be introducing a Tuesday class at St Columb Minor Memorial Hall for 6-16 year olds at 17:30 – 18:30
