starlet Jemima Duxberry won the Young Sports Personality of the
Year award at the inaugural Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Awards
at the Corn Exchange on 14 September.
The event was organised
by Wiltshire Council, the Wiltshire and Swindon Activity and Sports
Partnership,
Swindon Borough Council
and NHS Wiltshire to recognise the region’s clubs, volunteers
and athletes.
The 15-year-old, who trains
at Devizes Judo Club, is a fast-rising British international.
A national medallist since
the age of 11, the Briton has been a long-time force on the domestic
stage and is now excelling on the international scene as she claimed
a bronze medal in May at the Cadet European Cup in Poland.
Jemima received her award from Andrew
Kerr, Chief Executive of Wiltshire Council and former England
rugby international Phil de Glanville, who said: “I am extremely
impressed by the quality and standard of coaches, volunteers and
athletes in Wiltshire.

“Support and dedication
at a local level are extremely important for the sustainability
of sport in this country and events such as this demonstrate how
much our volunteer workforce are valued."
