Dog’s Leap for fun in Northern Ireland

Dog Leap Judo Club recently staged its highly successful judo summer school in Ballykelly Primary School, Limavady, Northern Ireland.

The club was only founded last year by 3rd Dan Tom Pearson but has already built a reputation for excellence in County Londonderry. The junior members of the club were asked to think of an original name and Dog Leap was chosen, Dog Leap is the English translation of Limavady (Léim a' Mhadaidh- Leap of the Dog) which is where the club is based.

After the previous year’s success the proactive club founder and coach again arranged a four-day summer scheme with five guest coaches ranging from Terry Watt, to National Coach Jim Toland, Cadet coach Stephen McCluskey and pre-cadet coach Jonathan Cooke.

A different coach took to the mat each day saw the students enjoy a variety of coaching styles. The children enjoyed not just the judo but also fun and games with the coaches as willing participants!

Wendy Cooke, Northern Ireland Judo Federation’s Honorary Secretary, said: “We’re delighted to see Dog Leap Judo Club host one of the most popular summer schools in Northern Ireland.

“The club has established itself within the region and enjoys a strong junior membership which is great to see as we continue place the development of young talent as one of our priorities.”
