Olympic medallist backs Coventry adult beginner's course

Coventry's double Olympic silver medallist Neil Adams is backing the British Judo Association’s new adult beginner’s course which comes to Coventry Judo Club on Friday 23 September.

The 10-week course, which is launching across the country in September, will see newcomers enjoy a fun-fuelled experience of the Olympic sport which has a highly-motivating and rewarding non-competitive grading scheme.

Club patron Adams, who won Olympic medals in 1980 and 1984, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for people to try a challenging and rewarding sport which will see you develop your fitness levels, balance, coordination and flexibility in a no-pressure environment. The health benefits are a great incentive to practice judo and it’s even more enjoyable when you’re learning a new sport at the same time.

"Judo can be practiced by anyone and if you’re looking for a new challenge, a way to get fit or you’ve ever been curious about trying a martial art, this is the perfect opportunity for you.”

No prior experience of judo or any sport is required; you can bring a family member, a friend or make new ones as you practice the sport over the 10-week course and complete you’re first grading at end of it.

British Judo’s motto is ‘Judo for All’ as the sport can be practiced by all ages and official weight categories for senior judo players (known as judoka) who choose to enter competitions goes from -48kg to +78kg for women and -60kg to +100kg for men.

For the course fee of just £60 you will receive 10 weeks judo tuition, a British Judo adult licence, a judo suit and the opportunity to take your first grading.
