The British Judo Association’s
Club of the Year prize has gone to Vale Judo Club.
The East Midlands outfit
will receive the award at the National Governing Body’s Volunteer
Awards Dinner on Saturday 2 October at the Botanical Gardens in
Birmingham.
Vale Judo Club was nominated
by the British Judo Association’s East Midlands Development Officer
Terri-Ann Elliot.
“The club is the largest
outfit in the East Midlands with almost 200 players, an excellent
volunteering structure and one of the best and most extensive
school programmes I have come across, “ said the 2nd Dan.
“In the past year Vale
Judo Club has worked hard to develop its adult and junior sections
by running a range of classes and school link programmes. The
adult beginners programme has been extremely successful with many
of those starting taking out licences, gaining their first grades
and continuing to develop as judoka.”
The well-run club has worked
closely with the British Judo Association to hold activities which
run in conjunction with the National Governing Body’s key initiatives.
“In addition to the everyday
running of the club Vale Judo has been helping the BJA with some
of its initiatives, running a girl’s training camp and development
activities as well as coach education courses.
“The club has developed
its refereeing and officiating contingency as they run their own
events and supply staff for other events across the area.”
Terri-Ann added: “On top
of everything else the club has worked hard to raise money for
its intended move to a new larger permanent venue in 2011 by submitting
applications to every available funding body.”
The British Judo Association
is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of judo in
Great Britain.
