Newly-formed Osterley Judo
Club has been backed by the British Judo’s London area to make
a mark in the capital.
The Hounslow club is based
at Osterley Sports and Athletics Centre and is led by Misha Kljutic
who achieved his 1st Dan black belt in 2009.
Tim Edwards, British Judo’s
Club Development Officer in London, said: “Misha has worked incredibly
hard to begin coaching at local schools in Hounslow and his new
club is an exit route for those judoka’s to continue their development
in a club setting”.
“We are already seeing
the club attract youngsters in good numbers with nearly 20 judoka
already taking part.”
Karen French, British Judo’s
London Development Manager, said: “Misha is a very ambitious person
and is very excited with his new club. The London Area has a lot
of faith in his coaching and ability to deliver first-class judo
sessions.”
Misha said: “After achieving
my UKCC level 1 and level 2 coaching courses I decided to give
back to judo and help out at the clubs where I trained.
“Happily my 11-year-old
son Luka, a third generation judoka, is doing well in the sport
and has medalled at national events.
“My aim is to try and spread
judo in the borough where I live and I’m already teaching judo
at several local schools. The club is only five weeks old and
is growing steadily. We have another coach, Spiro Tomasevic, a
4th Dan who is on the verge of completing his UKCC level 2 award.
“Judo at the end of the
day is what you want it to be: competitive or recreational, you
can train just to keep fit or for self defence, as much as you
put in you will get more out and there’s a social aspect to the
sport.”
Osterley Judo Club will
train at Osterley Sports and Athletics Centre, 120 Wood Lane,
Isleworth, TW7 5FF. Juniors will train at 19:00 – 20:00 while
adults will follow at 20:00 – 21:00.
