Lincolnshire’s Boston Judo
Club is to receive the coveted Clubmark Bronze Award.
The thriving club is at
the forefront of the sport in the county and has recently established
links with local schools through the School 2 Dojo programme.
Secretary and club coach
Dave Jacklin said: “ Boston Judo Club have always had top quality
coaching and provided a safe and welcoming environment to practice
judo.
“Gaining this award was
down to the forward thinking of our committee and the recognition
of its present coaches to the importance of gaining the required
qualifications.
“For over two years we
have been working towards this goal as it forms part of our continuous
improvement of the club.”
The clubmark scheme was created by
Sport England in 2002 in partnership with National Governing Bodies.
Clubs work through the
scheme from bronze award up to gold after demonstrating that they
are committed to providing a safe, effective and friendly environment
for players.
Terri-Ann Elliot, East
Midlands Regional Development Officer for the British Judo Association,
said: “The award recognises the club’s work and commitment to
delivering a safe and engaging judo experience.”
Boston Judo, who are club
members of the British Judo Association, have an ever-increasing
presence within their community, recently attracting 166 pupils
to a recent taster session at Haven High School.
Jacklin added: “The Haven
High school enjoyed both a taster day of Olympic Judo with 166
of its pupils trying the sport. Each group enjoyed a 30-minute
experience of the sport.
“We’ll now run a 10-week
course for students to gain a more in depth knowledge of the sport.”
The Clubmark presentation
will take place at the club on Thursday 27 th May at 19:00.
Boston Judo Club train
at Boston Conservative Club, Main Ridge West, Boston, PE21 8QQ.
Boys and Girls train on Monday and Thursday at 19:00 - 20:00 while
men and women train on the same days at 20:00 - 21:00.
