Enfield Judo Club’s teen
star Philip Awiti received a special grant from the British Judo
Trust towards funding two new judogi to compete at the Junior
European Championships in Lommel, Belgium on Sunday.
The -100kg standout took
gold at the Portugal Junior European Cup and is one of host of
bright prospects coming through the junior ranks.
Enfield Judo Club Head
Coach George Hyslop, who won the British Judo’s Development Coach
of the Year award last year, applied for the grant on Philip’s
behalf.

"We required financial
support for Philip who worked tremendously hard to be selected
for the Junior European Championships. Philip needed two new judogi
which adhered to the strict criteria for the event.
"Philip comes from
a talented judo family with his two sisters also active in the
sport and everyone appreciates the support of the British Judo
Trust which enabled him to compete at the greatest junior event
in Europe.”
Emma Davies-Carolan, British
Judo Trust Director, said: “We’re delighted to help such a promising
judoka compete at the biggest event of his career. We wish him
every success in the future.”
